1. How many disciplines/subjects do we study in an honours course?
You study you core course throughout the three years, which in this case is English, and additionally, you can pick a generic elective from any of the courses (eg psychology, sociology, journalism, etc) offered by the college to study during the first two years along with your core papers.
2. What are the cut-offs like for the English department in LSR?
The cut-off varies from year to year. In the past it has been in the range of 97%-99% for the General/Unreserved category. The cut-offs range anywhere between 80%-95% for the OBC category. For the SC/ST category, cut-offs have usually ranged between 66%-70% but may be placed higher. The cut-offs for PwD are usually between 70%-95%; for the EWS category, they're between 84%-95%. For Kashmiri Migrants, they're ranged at 70%-93%
3. How do we calculate the best of 4 percentage for English honours?
Your best of four is calculated by taking 3 of your highest scores and English.
4. Do we need a minimum score in English in boards to be eligible for admission in the English department ?
No, the cut offs will be on the basis of your overall best of 4 percentage, which must include English.
5. I have studied elective English in school, does that make a difference in calculating my percentage?
Yes, if you have studied elective english and are applying for english honours, you get a benefit of 1% in the best 4 percentage calculation
6. How do you study English at college?
Literature students do not just read books and study grammar. They're trained to closely read texts and must simultaneously study various background texts that detail socio-political and economic context. A Literature course will thus encompass elements of Philosophy, Sociology, Political Science, Psychology, History and Gender Studies. Students in this course become proficient writers and communicators capable of a high degree of critical analysis and research.
7. After a BA Honours in English, do I have to continue on to an MA? What opportunities of further study does this course open/close for me?
The career prospects after an English Honours degree are diverse. Literature students can venture into public relations, law, journalism/mass communication, civil services, academia, professional content writing/editing and international relations. Your field of study is broad with this degree and if you so wish, you can definitely pursue a Master's Degree (in most other disciplines as well, not just Arts).

9. What is the course structure of the B.A. (Hons.) English course?
The course is split across 6 semesters with 14 core papers in total. The entire course structure is as follows:
1st Semester- Indian Classical Literature, European Classical Literature
2nd Semester- Indian Writing in English, British Poetry and Drama (14th-17th Century)
3rd Semester- American Literature, Popular Literature, British Poetry and Drama (17th-18th Century)
4th Semester- British Literature (18th Century), British Romantic Literature, British Literature (19th Century)
5th Semester- Women's Writing, British Literature (Early 20th Century)
6th Semester- Modern European Drama, Post-colonial Literatures
Additionally, you will have a compulsory Ability Enhancement Course paper in your 1st Year (1st and 2nd Semesters) of study. In your 2nd Year (3rd and 4th Semesters) there shall be a Skill Enhancement Course paper. In your 3rd Year (5th and 6th Semesters), you shall be offered a choice between a number of Discipline Specific Electives. You will also have the GE (Generic Electives) of your choice for your first two years of study.
10. Are admissions taken on a first-come, first-served basis?
Not at all. If you have cleared the cut-off at any list, you shall be given admission into the course.

With that being said, it also allows the space for students to engage in related extracurriculars, internships, research projects, if they wish to do so.
It’s a highly immersive degree that equips the students with a perceptive ability to view the world holistically and inculcate that quality in their actual routine.
13. I love to read but I have a hard time articulating my thoughts within a proper structure. Will this course help?
The department organises various seminars and workshops on a range of themes from research methodology, examinations, to understanding literary theory. Moreover, the professors are immensely approachable and forthcoming to help any student facing difficulty with assignments, essays, or a specific text. The mentor-mentee system also functions to make the entire process of literary analysis and writing assignments easier, in addition to helping with a smooth transformation to college life.
14. My payment has not been processed or acknowledged within a few days. Should I be worried?
It is common for DU’s websites to malfunction sometimes. The acknowledgement and confirmation slip will eventually be made available.
15. Do I only study literature if I take up English Honours?
Along with the intersectionality of how English is studied in college, students take up a General Elective (GE) which functions like a minor. This can be in any subject that is also offered by LSR as a major - such as Sociology, Psychology, Journalism, and even Maths and Economics.
